Travel expert shares top tips for tourists concerned about catching covid abroad

It can be an anxious time for travellers who are itching to get back to their favourite holiday destinations, but worried about catching covid abroad as cases continue to rise across Europe.

However, there are precautions you can take to make sure you’re extra save when travelling.

Travel expert Mark Bibby Jackson from TravelBeginsAt40.com tells RSVP Live: “The golden rule is to take the same sensible precautions when travelling abroad as you would at home.

“Travelling itself is relatively safe, it is what you do when you reach your destination that is vital for you to stay safe.

“Wear masks when you are in public spaces, don’t get too close to other people, and make sure that you wash your hands thoroughly on a regular occasion and use antiseptic wipes or gel as well. I would suggest that you avoid lifts and public transport where possible.

“Take the stairs to your hotel room and either walk or cycle to places – in any case it is far healthier for you.

“When booking hotels and restaurants check what social distancing measures they have in place – do staff wear masks, are tables socially-distanced, is the breakfast a buffet or served to your table?

“All this information should be freely available online. If you are not satisfied with the response then book somewhere else. Above all else if you do not feel comfortable somewhere then just leave. You are on holiday to relax and enjoy yourself so don’t end up worrying about what the person next to you is doing.

“Finally, check up on the local restrictions in place before you book your holiday. Many countries and regions still have restrictions in place. It’s best to know what you are letting yourself in for before you pay for your trip. “
