An attorney acting on behalf of The Script has filed a lawsuit against former X Factor winner James Arthur claiming that the British musician ripped off one of their songs.
The claim says Arthur’s ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ has been ripped from the Dublin band’s 2008 hit ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’.
Richard Busc, who has previously represented Marvin Gaye’s family, has filed the lawsuit saying that Arthur has generated almost €17 million from his song which was released in 2016,
In a statement released to Billboard Busch wrote: “It’s widely known Mr. Arthur was dropped by his record label for public controversies, which caused a break in his career.
“It wasn’t until the release of ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ that he achieved worldwide success,” Busch said in a statement to Billboard.”
The hit was streamed 845 million times on Spotify and has 614 million views on Youtube.
The suit also claims that Arthur approached the band for a collaboration in 2014 but was turned down.
Busch has alleged that he then took the “essence” of ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’.
Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan, and Glenn Power’s hit has gained 172 million hits on Youtbe.
