Midwest radio presenter David Cawley has shared the sweet way he first met his wife Jane – when they were both doing their Confirmation.
Sharing his favourite memory from school, the Breakfast Show star told RSVP Magazine: “Being from a boys’ school, I have to say one of my favourite memories is the first time we teamed up with the girls’ national school for Confirmation.
“It was like a massive light bulb went off in my head -but I didn’t have the confidence to talk to any of them. I still remember thinking that if any of them spoke to me, I would have instantly run away with them!
“At the Confirmation itself, I sat beside a girl with long blond hair and an amazing smile. To prove there are happy endings, that girl is now my wife of 18 years, Jane. True story!”
Thinking back to his humble beginnings in radio as young lad, he said: “Most of my funny stories happened in secondary school at St Gerald’s Boys School in Castlebar.
“During transition year, we set up a radio in the school for break time and lunchtime. It was basically just an old DJ’s twin turntable with some dodgy speakers and a dodgy microphone.
“If the Leaving Cert students didn’t like the song you were playing, they would just unplug the speakers.
“I would come running out to see what the problem was, to be met by lots of heckles and dares from large fellows with hairy faces, saying ‘Go on – plug it back in!’ And no, I was not brave enough to do it!”
