The Great British Bake Off returned to our screens on Tuesday night – and a clear fan favourite has already emerged!

56-year-old baker Jurgen has already solidified himself as a massive hit with viewers of the Channel 4 show, with fans on social media saying that he “needs to be protected at all costs.”

Jurgen is originally from Germany but moved back to the UK 18 years ago, and now lives with his wife and son near the seaside.

Jurgen fell in love with baking after he couldn’t find traditional German bread in England. He decided to try to make it himself and developed a passion for baking ever since.

The TV star is well-known for his tasty Jewish challah bread, as well as beautiful celebration cakes he bakes for his family and friends.

Jurgen made a great impression on Bake Off viewers, who took to Twitter in their droves to praise him.

One wrote: “Does Jurgen do life counselling? I feel like he could solve all my problems.”

Another said: “If you don’t go awww when Jurgen is on screen what is wrong with you.”

A third asked: “So we’re all in love with Jurgen, yes?”

While a fourth fan added: “Declaring early on #GBBO. Team Jurgen. He is my winner already.”

The new series kicked off on Tuesday night with a hilarious country music sketch, as judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith donned mullets and performed Billy Ray Cyrus’s Achy Breaky Heart.

As the 12 budding bakers were put to the test for the first time, it was contestant Tom who was the first to be sent home, after failing to impress judges with his “anti-gravity” cake.

Viewers will have to tune in to see if Jurgen, and indeed the rest of the contestants, can make it through the next round.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday on Channel 4.
