Dublin locals are hoping to deploy Father Ted humming expert Father Purcell to help crack the case of a mysterious noise that has been driving them daft for months now.
What’s your favourite humming noise? Well we can tell you which one isn’t a fan favourite in Knocklyon as the suburb southsiders have had countless sleepless nights because of an “abnormal humming sound”.
Several took to Facebook to report the sound that has been like clockwork starting at around 11:30pm and lasting for hours in recent nights.
It can be heard very clearly around the Knocklyon and Scholarstown area but residents “don’t know what it is…or how long it will go on for”.
There’s one man that would be able to whistle his way to the bottom of this sound mystery with many looking to Father Parcell for his guidance and expertise on the matter.
The iconic priest from the cult Channel 4 show Father Ted became a fan favourite for his non-stop chatter which cracked up Father Jack as much as this current nightmare is cracking up the whole of Knocklyon.
Father Purcell famously uttered the lines “whats your favourite humming noise?” while stuck in a small closet with Father Jack.
He continued: “Would it be mmm-mmmmm or would it be mmmm-mm? The first one there, now that’s the sound of a fridge humming and the second one, now thats the sound of a man humming.
“You never hear a woman humming. I knew a woman once, but she died soon afterwards.”
Anyway, with Father Parcell still stuck in that closet, locals began to speculate among themselves.
One said: “My god can’t believe that. We have been hearing the humming noise for the last three weeks. Went up to the attic thinking it was coming from the water tank. We were thinking could it be coming from the radiators either. Have been all around the house. Very annoying when you don’t know whats causing it.”
Another claimed it might be some sort of weather phenomenon because of the wind adding: “Heard it too the other night, sounded louder at front of the house.”
A third claimed: “It’s the same noise that comes from the M50 when they are doing any maintenance. They usually start at 11pm. The wind carries the noise even further. The same when theres concerts on at Marlay Park.”
And another bizarrely admitted: “I have been hearing a humming noise for months now, but not only from 11pm, I could hear it anytime during the day, some days louder than others. At the beginning I thought it was coming from the Ballyboden reservoir, which is literally 80 meters from our house, but then I realised I could hear it even in other locations when I had the opportunity to stay in a quiet place.”
