Conor McGregor showed his soft side after a picture posted on social media of him in a Manchester United jersey as a child made the fighter go all nostalgic.
A fan posted the snap of the UCF fighter as an eight-year-old at a sports day wearing the famous Red Devils away top from 1996.
The photo made the Crumlin man think of his son Conor Junior and his younger self.
McGregor wrote on Twitter: “I see my son when I look at this. Thank you for sharing.
“This is a picture from my schools “sports day”, and that infamous grey Utd jersey, I actually bought myself with my communion money at 8 years of age.
“I’d love to know where it is now. A truly Notorious football jersey!”
The grey United kit is famous as back on 13th April 1996 – Manchester United were having a nightmare against Southampton, losing 3-0 down at half-time.
Sir Alex Ferguson marched into the dressing team, immediately barked, “Get that kit off, you’re getting changed”… and sure enough, United emerged for the second half wearing a completely new blue and white strip.
They did fare better in the second half pulling a goal back but it was not enough to prevent a 3-1 loss.
Things are starting to look up for the current crop at Old Trafford though and McGregor also passionately hailed the influence of their new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He wrote: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a special man! The Man United Super Sub. Player AND Manager. Insane! You can feel the passion he has for his club and it’s history.
“Beaming with pride as he vividly explains the teams amazing counter attacking ability over the years. Past and present! Wow!”
